Laparoscopy

A less invasive surgery method with a quicker recovery time.

With smaller incisions comes better precision. Laparoscopy (or keyhole surgery) is a less invasive surgical procedure that allows our veterinarians to make more accurate diagnoses. The benefits don’t just stop there. With faster recovery times, and reduced postoperative pain and complications, we’ll have your furry friend feeling better in no time. To discuss whether laparoscopy is the right fit for your pet, give us a call at 905-579-4040.

Which procedures can be performed laparoscopically?

When it comes to diagnosing diseases, laparoscopy is one of the best non-invasive routes to take. This tool allows us to examine and biopsy internal organs, remove stones and tumours and diagnose torn ligaments. Some of the procedures we offer at our hospital include:

  • Spaying
  • Cryptorchid neuter (remove a retained testicle)
  • Liver biopsy
  • Stomach-tacking in larger dogs (gastropexy)

Are laparoscopic surgeries safe for my pet?

A laparoscopic procedure is safer and less invasive than more traditional surgery. Only needing to go in through a small incision, this procedure allows for a shorter recovery time, less scarring, and reduced post-operative pain or complications such as infection. Still unsure whether laparoscopic surgery is the right fit for your pet? Not to worry, our veterinarians are more than happy to walk you through your options and create the best treatment plan tailored to your pet’s medical needs.

Will my pet have to go under anesthesia?

Similar to traditional surgeries, your pet will need to go under anesthesia. But the advantage of laparoscopic procedures is shorter time under anesthesia, quicker recovery and fewer complications.
