What are X-rays?

Through the use of light rays, X-rays (also known as radiography) allow us to get a more accurate picture of your pet’s internal organs, soft tissues, bones and ligaments. X-rays can help our veterinarians evaluate your pet’s heart, bone abnormalities or swelling within a joint. Dental radiographs can also be used to help spot unhealthy teeth that need to be removed or damage that would usually go unnoticed.

What can X-rays help diagnose?

X-rays allow us to visualize what is going on in your pet’s internal system. With our onsite digital diagnostic tools, our veterinarians can receive the results immediately while your pet is still in the room for their appointment. This can help us diagnose and monitor conditions such as:

• Abnormal swelling
• Tumours and abscesses
• Broken or sprained bones
• Swallowed foreign objects
• Pregnancy
• Enlarged organs

Will my pet need to be sedated?

Comfort is key. Our priority is making sure your pet is not in any pain or feeling anxious. If they are, we may sedate them. Keeping your pet calm and still will also help us get a more precise X-ray and more accurate results. X-rays are generally painless and safe as our digital technology is non-invasive and reduces their exposure to radiation.
