Emergency Care Services for Pets

Although we typically see our patients via scheduled appointments, we understand that accidents can happen from time to time. If your pet needs urgent care, please do not hesitate to contact our team. We ask that you please call ahead of time. This way, we can provide you with instructions on how to care for your pet and transport them. It will also give us time to prepare for the arrival of your pet. Calling ahead also allows us to redirect you to another hospital if we are already at maximum capacity. This will save you time and allow your pet to be treated as soon as possible. To learn more about the emergency services we offer, please don’t hesitate to call us at 905-579-4040

How do I know if my pet needs emergency care?

Your pet may need emergency care for several reasons. They may require immediate veterinary care due to severe trauma or injury from a fall or accident, an allergic reaction, eating something poisonous, choking or other life-threatening situations. Signs to look out for include:

  • Rapid breathing
  • Excessive bleeding
  • Seizures or fainting
  • Change in body temperature
  • Weak or rapid pulse

How can I safely transport my pet to your hospital?

It can be hard to know what to do during an emergency. The first step is to protect yourself as pets can become aggressive when severely injured. Ways to safely transport your pet include:

  • For dogs: Calmly and slowly approach them while kneeling. It’s best to call for help if they show signs of aggression. If you can safely and gently lift them, make sure to support their neck and back in case of any spinal injuries.
  • For cats: Gently approach them or place a blanket over their head to protect yourself from them biting you. Gently lift them while supporting their neck and back in case of any spinal injuries.
